What Does "Change" Really Mean?

11 Comments | Posted August 20, 2008 | 04:53 AM (EST)

Barack Obama has built his whole campaign around change. But he has not yet explained why we need that change. You might think that's a strange criticism because he has theoretically been talking about why we need change this whole time. But in fact, he hasn't; not real change. What...

How is John McCain's Affair Different from John Edwards'?

691 Comments | Posted August 8, 2008 | 04:41 PM (EST)

We have this weird notion in America now that if a politician is caught in an affair that his career is done. We seem to be saying that what he did in his private life effects his policies or how he governs. But we all know that isn't true. We...

Why is No One Calling the Anthrax Suspect a Terrorist?

176 Comments | Posted August 7, 2008 | 12:49 PM (EST)

The FBI is saying Bruce Ivins sent the anthrax that wound up killing five and terrorizing the whole country. The deadly attack was aimed at some of our top politicians and media figures. If ever there was a terrorist attack, this was it. So, how come no one is calling...

McCain's Energy Plan: Improved Light Bulbs

8 Comments | Posted August 5, 2008 | 01:02 PM (EST)

The McCain campaign and conservative talk show hosts have been mocking Obama all week for suggesting that filling up your tires will promote fuel efficiency. Of course, it will, but the truth has never slowed these guys down before.

Many people have pointed out how silly and wrong...

Why McCain Has Caught Obama and What Obama Can Do About It

87 Comments | Posted August 4, 2008 | 02:49 AM (EST)

There are two principal reasons why John McCain has caught Barack Obama in the national polls. 1) McCain has changed the whole conversation about this election into one question - do you want to vote for or against Obama? This is genius. Obama needs to switch the conversation if...

David Ignatius Presents the Fable of John McCain

15 Comments | Posted July 31, 2008 | 03:14 PM (EST)

If ever there was a piece that exemplified the media love affair with John McCain it is today's article by David Ignatius -- McCain's True Voice. It is obvious from the article that Ignatius is disappointed in the slimy way that McCain has run his campaign so far --...

Another McCain Gaffe? Calling Gen. Petraeus the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff?

33 Comments | Posted July 28, 2008 | 03:36 AM (EST)

I'm actually not very high on judging candidates by their gaffes. I don't think it makes one scintilla of a difference whether John Kerry thinks the Packers play on Lambeau Field or Lambert Field. How would that have affected the way he governed as president? Not at all.

I think...

Another John McCain Gaffe -- Iraq Was the First Major Conflict After 9/11

275 Comments | Posted July 24, 2008 | 02:38 PM (EST)

There is one more John McCain gaffe that the media missed from the now famous CBS interview with Katie Couric.

This is the same interview in which McCain claimed the surge led to the Anbar Awakening, which is demonstrably false. But watch below for another gaffe when McCain says Iraq...

If We Drill in the US, We Don't Get the Oil

79 Comments | Posted July 23, 2008 | 12:20 PM (EST)

One thing has been driving me crazy about this drilling debate -- everyone seems to assume that if we drill for oil in the US, that we will get the oil. And hence, we won't be dependent on foreign oil anymore. But we won't get anything, Exxon-Mobil will.

The oil...

Why Do We White People Dislike Michelle Obama?

Posted July 17, 2008 | 04:32 AM (EST)

In the latest NY Times/CBS News poll, I think one number has been over looked. Michelle Obama has a stunningly low approval rating with white people. Only 24% of white Americans have a favorable view of her.

That's George Bush-like numbers. That's almost in Dick Cheney territory. I...

Regulation is Not a Bad Word

Posted July 15, 2008 | 04:52 PM (EST)

When I was growing up as a young Republican dork, I was told that "regulation" was a bad word. Sensible people were for less government regulation. Socialists were for more government regulation because they liked big government controlling the markets and your life. And most of all they loved red...

The Republicans and Barack Obama Are Going to Give Into the Terrorists

Posted July 9, 2008 | 11:24 AM (EST)

The Republicans, and most of the Democrats, are about to surrender some of our rights. Today they are set to give away the Fourth Amendment to Osama bin Laden.

Real patriots died to get us those rights. Real patriots have died throughout the years to protect those...

I'll Trade You the 2nd Amendment for the 4th

Conservatives are thrilled about the Supreme Court decision settling the 2nd amendment issue in favor of individual gun owners (versus the idea that gun rights are only within the framework of a well-regulated militia). They are celebrating the constitution today. God bless their hearts. I wish they did that more...

The pathetic Democratic capitulation on FISA is depressing to be sure. Sen. Feingold sounded pretty depressed when spoke to us about it yesterday on our show. He echoed the same frustration we have had for months now:

It's the latest chapter of running for cover when the administration tries...

Do the Democrats Want to Lose?

Posted June 24, 2008 | 02:10 AM (EST)

Do the Democrats want to lose? That seems an odd question to ask. But they do it so well you begin to wonder. Now, they are about to lose to Bush and the grossly unpopular Republicans again on FISA and telecom immunity. But are they really losing? That depends...

Are the Democrats Worse Than the Republicans?

If you keep losing to the worst, what does that make you?

Why Doesn't the Press Ever Talk About the Oil?

Posted June 19, 2008 | 01:06 PM (EST)

Today, the major American oil companies came back into Iraq by getting... you guessed it... no-bid contracts! In fact, the four major oil companies that were thrown out by Saddam Hussein 36 years ago made their triumphant return to occupied Iraq.

Former chief executive of Exxon, Lee Raymond,

As Good As It Gets for McCain

Posted June 13, 2008 | 05:33 AM (EST)

About a month ago, I said on the show that this as good as it gets for John McCain. That was in the middle of the Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton melee. At that point Obama and McCain were essentially tied in the polls, and some polls even...
